Garuda Wisnu kencana

Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) is a monumental statue located in the southern part of Bali, Indonesia. The statue, which stands at an impressive height of 120 meters (394 feet) when fully completed, depicts the Hindu god Vishnu riding on the back of Garuda, a mythical bird and a symbol of freedom. The project aims to embody the cultural and spiritual themes central to Balinese society, showcasing the island's rich heritage and commitment to Hindu mythology.

The GWK Cultural Park, where the statue resides, is set within a sprawling area comprising various cultural spaces, exhibition halls, and stages for traditional performances. Designed by the renowned Balinese sculptor Nyoman Nuarta, the statue project began in 1997 and faced several challenges, including funding issues and construction delays. After years of dedication and effort, the statue was officially inaugurated in September 2018, representing a significant landmark for both locals and tourists.

In addition to being a stunning visual attraction, Garuda Wisnu Kencana serves as a site for cultural events, festivals, and educational activities related to Balinese culture and Hindu traditions. It stands not only as a profound artistic achievement but also as a symbol of peace and unity, inviting visitors from around the world to appreciate the beauty and global significance of Balinese culture.
